The Hikers Buddy Verdict

Coffee lovers rejoice! No longer must you suffer through cups of bitter, tasteless instant coffee just because you’re away from civilisation for the weekend. Pack a Jetboil Coffee Press, and you can take your favourite brew along on all your adventures.

It’s certainly not a complex product, but it does its job well; heat up some water, turn off the gas, throw in some ground coffee, pop the press on, wait a couple of minutes, then plunge. Done!

Another feature we love is that it can also function as a steamer. This is great for those times that you’re craving some fresh cooked veggies. This functionality actually really helps to add a bit of cooking versatility to some of the otherwise less-versatile Jetboil unregulated stoves such as the Zip & Flash.

All in all, this is a very well designed product, and if you’re someone who needs a cup of coffee to get going in the morning, this will be a great addition to your pack. Just make sure to check you’re getting the size that’s compatible with your stove.

Compatibility

The standard size press sells for a list price of $19 USD, and is compatible with the Jetboil Zip, Flash, and MicroMo. It’s also available in a ‘Grande’ size ($21 USD), which is compatible with the Stash, MiniMo & Sumo. Between the two options, pretty much the full Jetboil range is covered.

Of course, while the Jetboil silicone press is compatible with the Jetboil lineup, it's unlikely to be compatible with systems from other manufacturers - unless the products have precisely the same dimensions. For this reason, we don't recommend purchasing this for use with non Jetboil stoves. If you're using a 'system' stove of a different brand, you'll probably find that the brand that manufactures your stove also makes a compatible coffee press. For example, MSR produces a similar product for its WindBurner systems - the WindBurner Coffee Press Kit.

Weight & Packability

At 42 g for the standard size, you’ll barely notice any extra weight in your pack. The press is also very packable; the basket detaches from the stem, so you should have no issues storing the parts within the cooking cup.
